WHERE IS KIRKWOOD? Kirkwood Mountain Resort is located 30 miles south of Lake Tahoe, along CA State Hwy 88. The resort has a great network of cross-country ski trails that become ideal all-singletrack mountain bike courses when the snow is gone. As you can see by the photos above, the terrain is gorgeous!
WHERE CAN WE STAY? There will be FREE camping in the pits the night before and the night of the race. Tent camping and car camping will be in Pit #1 (see course map), RVs, large vehicles or teams who want to set up a large pit area will be in Pit #2.
There will be restrooms open nearby, but sorry, no showers. Bring your sun shower.
The resort also has a full range of accomodations: condos, hotels, cabins and campgrounds. Camping is available just across the road from the venue. We're asking for permission to allow RV camping in the parking lot near the start/finish; we'll let you know as soon as we get the offical okie dokie.
HOW DOES AN ENDURANCE RACE WORK? It's simple - ride as many laps as you can between the start and the finish of the race. This one starts at 9am and goes until 5pm. Only laps COMPLETED by 5pm will count. In the event of a tie, whoever completed that final lap first takes it. For teams, only one rider can be on the course at a time and all rider changes must take place at the transition area near the finish line. Teams are free to rotate riders however they wish; there are no minimum number of laps per rider - you can do one lap at a time, two at a time or whatever you want. Simple, eh?
